Sales Onboarding

Part of Sales enablement software

Checking CRM integration during a platform demo

Check content access, data flow, permissions and failure handling from a CRM record during a sales enablement demo.

Check a CRM integration by following one sales action from a CRM record into the enablement platform and back. Inspect what the representative sees, which data are read or written, where the result appears and what happens when access is restricted.

An integration badge or successful sign-in does not answer those questions.

Give the demonstrator a workflow

Use a fictional opportunity with an agreed stage, product and buyer question. Ask the representative to open it in the CRM, find an approved asset, share it through the proposed workflow and inspect activity on the intended record.

If recommendations or training are part of the proposal, ask what triggers them and whether any completion data are written back.

Highspot describes content and plays in Salesforce workflows. Showpad describes content access and interaction logging in Salesforce. Mindtickle describes content, training and engagement there.

Demo question / Evidence to capture

Where does the seller start?
CRM record, embedded view and steps to the asset
What context is used?
Exact fields behind a recommendation or filter
What is written back?
Event, target record, owner and timing
Who can see it?
Seller, manager and administrator views under their own roles
What happens on failure?
Error, retry behaviour, duplicates and support owner

Check identity and data boundaries

Have the CRM administrator explain the authentication method, permissions and field mapping. Ask the vendor which method its proposed integration uses.

Check that the integration reads only the fields needed for the task. Try a role that cannot view the opportunity or a sensitive field. Establish where copied data are stored and how access is revoked.

Authentication Methods: Pros and Cons

OAuth 2.0 (Recommended)
Secure, standardised; supports role-based access control
API Keys
Simple setup but less secure; harder to revoke per user
Username/Password
Not recommended – high risk; not suitable for production

Distinguish display from data exchange

An asset visible in a CRM panel shows that the panel can display it in the demo environment. Inspect the record after sharing, refresh both systems and ask about delays or failed syncs.

Check a custom field or stage that your team actually uses. Record each requirement as demonstrated, simulated, configuration needed or untested, and assign a controlled trial to any purchase-critical gap.
